Open the equipment slot before judging a Rune
Runes are engraved into individual equipment pieces; they are not a replacement for an incomplete set bonus or an unrelated Karma card. Open Hero → Equipment, select the piece, then use its Rune circle. The required Anonymous Artisan's Crafting Tool is listed in current records from Shops and Raids.
Open a slot on the piece you expect to keep through the next meaningful gear jump. Spending the tool on a temporary item can be fine if it fixes a real progression block, but a Rune cannot make a wrong set trigger become useful.
Match the Rune to the job the equipment already performs
Start with the stat or combat role that the equipped piece and active hero actually use. A defensive Rune is useful when survival prevents a clean Break window; an offensive Rune is useful when the team already survives and needs to finish the window. Compare candidates in the Rune database, then keep Karma decisions separate in the Karma database.
Raid rewards are a sensible Rune-farming destination only after the party can clear the selected tier reliably. If a Raid clear is still inconsistent, use the Raid Guide to fix the phase plan before treating more Rune drops as the answer.
4-Star synthesis is an upgrade chance, not a guaranteed promotion
Update 1.0.7 made 5-Star Runes obtainable from 4-Star Rune Synthesis. That means a 4-Star input can produce a 5-Star result; it does not mean every synthesis does. Keep a working Rune equipped before combining duplicates, and do not consume the last copy that supports an active build merely to chase a higher star.
The game later updated its probability information to reflect this possibility. Treat the displayed in-game probability panel as the current authority whenever a later patch changes the synthesis screen.
Use the 500-slot cap to sort, not to hoard blindly
Update 1.0.7 expanded Rune capacity from 200 to 500 and added an owned-count display. Use that extra space to keep one clearly labeled comparison set: equipped Runes, plausible replacements for your current three heroes, and synthesis candidates. Recheck the count before a long Raid session so a full inventory does not interrupt the reward loop.
- Keep: equipped Runes, a proven alternate for the same role, and inputs you deliberately intend to synthesize.
- Review: duplicates with no current equipment slot or hero role.
- Do not decide from rarity alone: an unequipped higher-star Rune can still be less useful than a lower-star Rune that completes the actual role.
For the exact patch change, see Update 1.0.7; for broader gear decisions, return to the Gear Guide.
